I am so excited to be part of a wonderful photography project with other amazing photographers from around the country. The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week. A fellow photographer, Lelani Rogers, started a project in conjunction with breast feeding week to bring more awareness to public breastfeeding.
Now I know that this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I have friends on both ends of the spectrum that avidly support it and avidly disagree. I am ok with everyone’s opinions 🙂 As for my own I think a mom has a right to decide, cover or no cover in public or not, but she should never be made to feel bad by her decisions.
Having nursed three babies of my own, I know all the different emotions of taking care and nursing a child. With my first I never really nursed in public but I was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing 😉 with the next two the nursing relationship was easier. And lucky for me one of my dearest and amazing talented friends took pictures of me nursing my third baby 2 years ago. I love these pictures and I am so glad I have images of this fleeting time.
In honor of breastfeeding week I spontaneously sent out Facebook messages to see if there were any mom’s in the area interested in nursing photos. It was so fun to see a couple of past clients and new faces as we discussed and took pictures of nursing babies! Here are some of my favorite from that day. I hope to next year get more on the ball with planning and organizing pictures, but I think this was a pretty great start!
If you are interested in nursing photographs in alignment with family photographs or by itself please feel free to email me! And by sure to check out and ‘like’ my Facebook photography page to get the most recent updates and events with April Newman Photography 🙂
